Niagara Falls, Canada & Surrounding Areas
We set out on our first adventure from Long Island to Canada in our Toyota Corolla. Neither of us had ever crossed the border to Canada, or really anywhere in a car. The drive through upstate New York was almost worth it on its own. We visited in October, when all the leaves had changed to beautiful gold yellow, deep orange and ruby red.
One of the most recommendable tours we took was the Taste the Town Tour. We had a lovely tour guide, she knew a lot and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with our group. The group size was very good and the tour was the perfect length, about two hours.
Greaves Jams and Marmalades had such an amazing selection of all kinds of delicious jellies and jams. I just had to bring some of these tasty treats home for the family to try.
Cheese Secrets the cheeses were unbelievable! They have a cute and clean deli and they cater as well. Even a non-cheese-lover would find something here, there are so many options! The owners were adorable and so kind.
Maple Leaf Fudge carries more than just melt-in-your-mouth fudge. Their store features many kinds of sweet treats. I would go back to enjoy this store again!
Pie’za Pizzeria is a bright and friendly pizza shop. A cute place to stop for a truly italian pizza, in Canada!
The Exchange Brewery is the perfect change of pace of an afternoon or evening in Canada’s wire country.
Il Gelato di Carlotta founders are from Florence Italy. And it shows in their delectable little gelato and ice flavors!

Another fantastic tour we highly recommend if you’re going to Niagara is Niagara Fun Tours. The best wine touring company we could have found for our trip. Every winery we went to was unique and had something new to offer. The touring company even has private tours for parties!
Among some of the stops were Konzelmann Estate Winery, Diamond Estates (now Lakeview Wine Co.), Small Talk Winery, Palatine Hills, and some extra goodies along the way!

We chose a spunky hotel that featured a cafe, restaurant and amazing views. The staff was very kind and someone was always available. The Tower Hotel was home to the Marilyn Bistro Restaurant, which is no longer open, but was beautifully positioned over longing the falls. This was good for a short stay for two, we spent most of the time out of the room.
Lastly, an easy visit is the Niagara Skywheel. We were so lucky to be stopped at the top for a wonderful firework display over the falls! It’s definitely worth the ride and is open till 12am during the week, 1am during the weekend 🎡
The Skywheel is located near many other activities, like indoor mini golf!
After all these amazing stops, we found this to be one of our favorite getaways. The historic old town, Niagara-on-the-Lake, is easy to fall in love with. Their food wasn’t the only fun we had!
